GLORIOUS GOODWOOD FESTIVAL LOWDOWN

I hope you enjoyed the Goodwood Festival. It was a decent festival in the end with a 4.1 point profit. That works out at £41 profit using £10 win and £5 E/W or £410 profit using £100 win and £50 E/W.

We got off to a great start with the winner of the first race at 9/1. Things went a little slow over the next 2-3 days but picked towards the end of the week. We could of won a lot more as I think we had some very unlucky stories.

After each festival I like to compile a lowdown for all my members. My customers always come first and I pride myself on customer service.

Below you will find a write up on our winners, E/W’s, hard luck stories and horses to follow going forward. We also have 1 ante post bet for next season. We have also included a profit/loss table with comments on every tip this week.

Before I move on with the lowdown I would like to let you know about my next Festival Special which is the York Ebor Festival. The Ebor Festival starts on the Wednesday 19th August and runs for 4 days until the 22nd August. The Ebor Festival hosts a huge 9 Group races over the 4 days so all the top horses will be lining up. The York Ebor Festival is available now at £7.50 at www.jpwracingtipster.com

WINNERS

We had 3 winners this week and a write up on each is below.

28/07/2015

2:00 Goodwood

MOUNT LOGAN had finished 3rd and 4th in 2 decent handicaps previously and deserved this win. He was given a great ride by Adam Kirby and I knew he had a race like this in his sights. He will now go up the handicap so might find things tough in the future but it is nice to see a horse who has always been consistent win a big prize like this. For me I always knew he was the classiest animal in the race and with a clear run he would win. Everything did go right and at an advised 9/1 Goodwood was off to a flyer.

31/07/2015

2:35 Goodwood

MALABAR was available at a huge 10/1 the night before and I said in my write up that was massive value. Down from Group 1 company at 10/1 is a no brainer and she also had winning form at the track. For me MALABAR was one of the most impressive winners of the week showing a tremendous turn of foot. The fact that she won so well I am sure they will want to step her up back to Group 1 company. She might bump into a few horses with a touch more class but any race where she runs and MALABAR has to come around a bend I will be on. She has a lot of gears and seems to like a sweeping turn. Given a terrific ride by Silvestre De Sousa who got his position early on before asking her to go for home which she obliged in impressive fashion. There is talk of her being targeted for Fillies races only in the US so I will be keeping my eyes out.

3:45 Goodwood

At the start of the season I gave all my members MUTHMIR as my horse to follow this season. He has already won in France at the start of the year and even if MUTHMIR does not win again this season, he owes me nothing. I thought this was an excellent result for MUTHMIR who was giving 4lb away to all the field. When asked to dig deep he obliged and stuck his neck out. A true sign of a gutsy sprinter. The next race is likely to be the Nunthorpe at York where MUTHMIR won last year. I know the Nunthorpe has been the target all season so will go into the race with a great chance. He will bump into the US Star Acuapulo but still would have a leading chance. Roll on York in 2 weeks time.

EACH WAY HORSES

We had 3 E/W horses who gave us a return.

29/07/2015

2:00 Goodwood

TEAK ran another consistent race to finish 5th and with 90% of the bookies paying 5 places we made a return. This horse never runs a bad race on the flat and would interest me in all leading handicap staying races.

01/08/2015

2:00 Goodwood

We were unlucky with BARNET FAIR who finished 2nd at an advised 16/1. He won the race last year and was on a lower mark. We also had Richard Hughes on board yet they wanted to give 16/1. Happy days for all of us and he just bumped into 1 horse to good. Will go up the handicap a 1lb or 2lb but could still be capable of winning a race off this mark. Would like to see where he goes next but I will be keeping a close eye.

3:45 Goodwood

A huge gamble took place on TROPICS who went from our advised 16/1 to 7/1 on the off. I thought he ran a great race considering the weight he was carrying and at one stage I thought he was going to win. He came in 5th and we picked up E/W money with 90% of bookies paying 5 places. Not a horse I would follow in Group 1s though as I think he will get outclassed.

HARD LUCK STORIES

28/07/2015

2:35 Goodwood

I think BIRCHWOOD would of won this race if the gap was not closed on him. He lost many lengths because of this but still stayed on at the end. Shaped like a horse who would also get further. I will be interested as to where they go next with BIRCHWOOD.

30/07/2015

3:10 Goodwood

QUEST FOR MORE was really unlucky to go down by a short head. This horse has improved massively this season and I still think he will improve further. I will be following this horse as I think he is a future Gold Cup horse and plenty more races are to be won.

31/07/2015

2:00 Goodwood

WINDSHEAR ran a great race to finish 3rd with only the first 2 home collecting E/W money. He certainly outrun his starting price just as I thought he would. Richard Hughes may of got closer but a gap closed and had to go on the outside which cost WINDSHEAR a few lengths. I have no doubt he is a Group 3, Class 1 horse and we may get a tasty price again next time out.

HORSE TO FOLLOW

I will be following ZAND until the end of the season because I thought he was travelling very well 3 furlongs out but seemed to stop and was brought home in his own time. His handicap mark should drop and I think Mark Johnson has other plans for this horse beyond Goodwood.

There is another race in AYAAR who should drop down handicap 1lb or 2lb. It will be interesting to see which route they go but this is a strong travelling type likely to be decent value on his next start.

MUBTAGHAA should go to York on his next start as he won a race at the Ebor meeting last year. Should come down the handicap further and will be a huge price next time out I imagine.

KACHY made only his 2nd career start and was so impressive when beating King Of Rooks. Travels so well through races and goes through the gears like a very good horse. It is hard not to see why this horse will not go right to the top in my opinion.

ANTE POST TIP

QUEST FOR MORE to win the Ascot Gold Cup next season at a huge 16/1 is a great bet. Will not be half that price if lining up next year. That race has got to be the plan and Roger Charlton will be training with just one race in mind.

Below are the results from the week.
